For many California veterans, the cost of assisted living or home health care can be devastating. Many veterans do not know that they or their spouse could get the money from the VA to pay for their care without using up their savings.
If you or a member of your family is an honorably discharged veteran who served at least one day during a period of wartime (the term "wartime" is very broad), age 65 or older, and if you are in an assisted living facility or are spending several hundred dollars a month or more on the cost of your health care, then you may qualify for a special pension program through the VA that can pay up to $1,949.00 per month to pay for home health care, assisted living care, and nursing home care.
You could be eligible for this additional income - even if you did not retire from the military or do not have a service connected disability. Under certain circumstances, the wife or a widow of a veteran may qualify for a pension benefit.
